Carrying Tradition in a Digital World
An inspirational presentation incorporating both traditional
and avant-garde calligraphy
Friday, May 14 2010 7 p.m.
Location: PCC Sylvania Campus • Building ST Room 101
This FREE presentation is sponsored by The Portland Society for Calligraphy

Denis
will show a wide range of his recent work, using it to discuss the
meaning for him of being a scribe in the twenty first century. The
multimedia presentation will include several short movies punctuating
live discussion. Not to be missed!
Ireland's rich heritage of ancient calligraphy in manuscripts
such as The Book of Kells was inspiration for Denis Brown
as a schoolboy. Later, his rigorous formal training in traditional
calligraphy was at London's Roehampton Institute with Ann Camp. Now
his work explodes from, and extends, those traditions in the form of
innovative modern works of art. Widely travelled with his work, he
has lectured, and won awards and commissions on four continents, and
is internationally recognised as a world leader in the field of letter
arts.
