This class provides a way for creative
expression of themes and topics that move us personally. Through
journals, we have a unique opportunity to discover what we want to
say and how we want to say it in our calligraphic art. In approaching
the blank pages of a book we can begin to experience the joy of play
and experimentation, and to experience the freedom of creating whatever
we choose, without a particular agenda. A calligraphic journal can
be experienced as a process — a
way of self discovery through visually expressing one's feelings,
thoughts and ideas. Throughout the course students will be offered
a series of "jumping off" exercises designed to help lessen fear,
and to ease their way into their blank books. Included among these
will be improvisational writing an visual journal prompts and techniques,
music and group collaborations and discussions The aim is to begin
a process which participants will continue beyond the class. In addition
to working in blank books, students will have the opportunity to
bind a simple journal.
