Experimental Watercolor
with Jacqueline Sullivan
Sunday,
February 12, 2006, 9:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
Workshop description
In this class you will learn some quick
and fun techniques for creating transparent watercolor backgrounds.
We will create colorful, loose, abstract watercolor paintings that
will work as exciting backgrounds for your calligraphic works. The
class is for all levels of artists/calligraphers. Students will start
by pouring the paint on their papers, creating free flowing washes
that are perfect for writing on! The usual salt and alcohol techniques
will be presented, but then we will try some truly experimental stuff
to add interest and excitement to the paintings.
Supplies:
- Watercolor Paper (Cold Press) 140 lb. 2 sheets cut into fourths.
(Note: It must be 140 lb., I prefer Lanaquarelle or Winsor Newton,
Arches is fine.)
- Flat Watercolor Brush -- synthetic is fine -- should be 1"
wide.
- Old Cookie Sheet or tray for catching drips (this is a MUST! We
pour the colors!)
- 2 Large Water Containers (Like large cottage cheese containers)
- Pan Watercolors or any watercolors that you may have. There will
be some available to share.
