St. John's Bible field trip
Suzanne Moore led us through the "Illuminating the Word: The Saint John's Bible" exhibit at the Tacoma Art Museum in Washington. The Saint John's Bible is the only handwritten and illuminated Bible commissioned in over 500 years. Donald Jackson, calligrapher to Queen Elizabeth II, is the artistic director. He worked with scribes and artists to write and illuminate The Saint John's Bible using quills and paints hand-ground from precious minerals and stones.
PSC Member Jan Nerenberg writes, "I cannot believe the beauty of the work both script and illustration. It is amazing that a human being can create something so incredibly beautiful and detailed. The butterflies almost fly off the page. One of the best parts was the mock-ups used in planning the pages."
